About the host entity

Bonns Fünfte is a school in the developing phase in which students learn together regardless their religion, nationality, talent and challenges. They are part of the countrywide program “schools without racism”. Social awareness and everyone’s responsibility in a society are the core aims of this program. Our belief is that everyone should habve the same access to high-quality education which is why our school is inclusive – a term which according to the European law expresses the equal participation of all people in our community.

Description of assignment

  • Support of students in different learning settings based on the school’s concept
  • Active participation in the organization of project classes, project weeks, study groups, intercultural programs
  • Support of teachers
  • Support of administration of the afore-mentioned projects

2. KiTa Strander Möwe – Brücke e.V. | Strande, Germany

About the host entity

The Strander Möwe is a kindergarden for children with the age from 0 to 6 years. It has three groups and is located in a small village called Strande which is 35 minutes away from the center of Kiel and a few minutes from Dänischenhagen. Two of the groups are in the house and one is a nature group which spends most time at the beach. Since a few years we’ve been hosting interns from the USA so the kids are used to bilingualism. You as a volunteer will take the part of the interns and mostly speak English to the children – they will understand you. The team brings appreciation and respect to all children and their families no matter what cultural background they have, which gender, age, nationality, religion, worldview, disability or sexual orientation. We strive and live for diversity and see it as a great treasure. We support our children in their personal growth to become independent personalities.

There will be two SAGE Net volunteers in the KiTa Strander Möwe.

The long opening hours allow the parents to hold down their job and be sure that their kids are taken care of. 5. KiTa Farbenfroh – Brücke e.V. | Schacht-Audorf, Germany

About the host entity

We are a small kindergarden with two groups of children from the age of 1 to 6 years, located in Schacht-Audorf, close to the town of Rendsburg, directly at the North-to-Baltic Sea canal. Our work follows the so-called situational approach. This means that we are taking up those topics that are currently important to the children. Every day we are allowing our children all sorts of possibilities for them to experience new adventures. We would be very happy if you were soon also be doing handicrafts with us, singing, doing gymnastics, building sand castles, going on excursions, reading books to us over and over again and if you were shaping our colorfoul [the name of the kindergarden ‘Farbenfroh’ means ‘colourful’ in German] everyday life and were speaking with us in English a lot.

6. Evangelische Stiftung Arnsburg | Lich, Germany

About the host entity

The Ev. Stiftung Arnsburg offers education, care, support and education to children, adolescents and young adults of all backgrounds and religious affiliations, which require support in their development as well as strengthening the family environment and the training and qualification of professionals for youth work.
The knowledge and competence center offers since August 2007 a continuous open offer for residents of the Ev. Stiftung Arnsburg in Lich. These are inter-group learning opportunities and individual competence developments of children, adolescents and young adults. The voluntary and open offers promote self-activation of the residents. Research and learning on their own provides a further component to the group activities and also strengthens the team spirit.

Description of assignment

  • Independent execution of tasks and projects in the knowledge and competence center
  • To provide supportive educational work with professionals
  • In addition, to support and accompany children and young people their abilities
  • Together with the educational professionals to develop offers that strengthen children and young people in their skills and allow new perspectives.

7. Förderzentrum Esens: Christian-Wilhelm-Schneider-Schule | Esens, Germany

About the host entity

The Christian Wilhelm Schneider School is a regional support centre and a school for children and youth with special needs. Currently, there are around 120 students visiting the school and the idea is that they should feel well and at home when being there. The team of the support centre consists of around 80 members of staff. The program of the support centre has its focus on “learning” as well as on “mental development”.
The volunteer only works in Esens which is the place where the school is located. Esens is a small town in East Friesland (around 7000 inhabitants) that is characterized by tourism and is only 4.5 km away from the North Sea coast.

Description of assignment

  • Area I: Educational activities
    o Individual and small group work related to classroom/teaching activities
    o in situations of daily school life: computer, riding horses, swimming, sports,
    o wheelchair training, supporting with eating
    o supporting English training
  • Area II: Care
    o Supporting, easy care activities under qualified supervision
  • Area III: School administrative tasks
    o Handing out toys in break times
    o Supporting housing services and school administration

8. Haus Schöneberg | Wyk auf Föhr, Germany

About the host entity

The House Schöneberg offers a home to adults with mental and multiple disabilities. It is located on the island of Föhr, a North Frisian island on the German coast of the North Sea. The organisation ”Paritätisches Haus Schöneberg” is the second largest employer on the island. Föhr has around 8200 inhabitants and is a popular destination for tourists. There is a ferry service to the mainland.

There are two places of assignment in House Schöneberg: “Workshop Oevenum” and “House Töft”

In the day group within the “Workshop Oevenum” we look after and care for adults with mental, physical and multiple disabilities. Because of the type or the severity of their disability, they cannot work in a workshop for people with disabilities or in a day support centre. The approaches in our day group are creative and artistic. For instance we are drawing with the inhabitants, playing games or going for walks.

In our full in-patient home “House Töft” we care for people regardless of their religious confession or nationality, in line with the parity idea (equality). There are nine housing groups where seven or rather nine people with disabilities live together. In accordance with their skills and their individual need of help our members of staff with various qualifications look after, support and care for the people living in the housing groups.
